You can delete your myChap account yourself, at any time, from the myChap app or the web app. No permission needed, no charge.
Deletion applies to your whole myChap account, across every chapter you belong to.
Your membership is up to your chapter. Deleting removes you from your chapters on myChap. Your chapter holds your membership in its own records, so whether you remain a member is for the chapter to decide under its own rules. To resign, or to stay a member, contact your chapter directly.
How to delete your account
In the myChap app
- Open Profile and tap the settings icon.
- In Account Settings, tap Delete my account.
- Read what will be removed, type DELETE to confirm, and we will email you a 6-digit code.
- Enter the code. Your account is deleted immediately.
In the web app
- Sign in, and open Settings: members find it under Profile → Settings; administrators in the menu under their name.
- Under Delete account, choose Delete my account.
- Read what will be removed, type DELETE to confirm, and enter the 6-digit code we email you.
Deleting without the app
If you cannot sign in, email privacy@mychap.net from the address registered on your account, with the subject line Account deletion request.
We reply within 48 hours to verify the request and complete it within 30 days. We verify before acting, because acting on a request from someone else would put your account at risk.
What gets deleted
- Your name, email address, mobile and alternate numbers, and emergency contact number
- Your profile photo, bio, social links, skills and interests
- Your date of birth, gender, postal address, occupation and employer
- Bank account details you added for yourself
- Your chapter passwords and all sign-in credentials
- Your sessions and push notification tokens: you are signed out everywhere
These are removed from live systems immediately and purged from backups within 90 days.
You will no longer appear in any of your chapters on myChap. Each chapter keeps your Member ID, role, join date and recognition, without your name, so its books and history still reconcile.
Everywhere else in your chapters' records (certificates, program registrations and bookings, reviews, volunteer sign-ups, comments, your job board profile and applications, mentoring records and chat messages), your name and contact details are removed or replaced with Deleted User.
What your chapter keeps, and why
A chapter is a legal entity that has to keep its own books. Its Treasurer must be able to reconcile last year's accounts; its auditor must be able to check them; its Volunteer Director must be able to report total hours contributed. Those obligations do not end because one person leaves myChap.
So the following stay in the chapter's records, showing Deleted User where your name appeared:
- Payments, refunds, invoices and ledger entries
- Program registrations and attendance counts
- Volunteer hours logged and recognition awarded
- Aggregate reports, dashboards and historical statistics
Tax invoices keep your name. Indian tax law requires an issued invoice to carry the name of the person it was issued to, and requires the chapter to retain it for up to eight years. We cannot remove a name a statute requires to be there. Invoices and credit notes also keep the contact details printed on them. Those documents stay in the chapter's financial records only. They do not appear in member directories, reports, dashboards or analytics. Your membership number is kept for the same reason, so historical receipts can be reconciled.
Things that must be settled first
You cannot delete your account while any of these apply, in any chapter, because the chapter would be left unable to operate. myChap tells you which ones apply and to which chapter.
- You own the chapter's myChap workspace. Transfer ownership to another administrator first.
- You are an administrator. Ask another administrator to change your role to Member.
- You hold a portfolio. Hand it over first, so the chapter's work does not stall.
Deleting does not cancel a program registration or trigger a refund. If you are registered for a paid program that has not happened yet, settle it with the chapter before you delete.
Things worth knowing
It cannot be undone. There is no recovery window and no archived copy we can restore from.
You can register again. Deleting does not block your email address. You can create a fresh account whenever you like, but your past activity, PDUs and volunteer credit on myChap will not come back. We keep your Member ID, without your name or contact details, so that a later import by your chapter does not bring your profile back.
Your membership of the association is separate. Deleting removes your records in myChap only. Membership of your chapter, and of any professional body your chapter belongs to, is held by those organisations and is unaffected.
Only your own data is deleted. Anything you contributed to the chapter as an organisation (minutes you recorded as Secretary, a budget you prepared as Treasurer) belongs to the chapter and remains in its records.
